Mark is a native of County Tyrone in Northern Ireland, and of Scottish ancestry. He was born into a Christian home and received Jesus Christ as his Savior as a boy. He is a graduate of the University of Ulster and Queens University of Belfast, where he studied at Union Theological College. In 2010 he earned a Doctor of Ministry from the Highland Theological College (Scotland) and Reformed Theological Seminary (Jackson, MS).

In August 2014 he was installed as the Associate Pastor of First Presbyterian Church Schenectady and in January 2017 was installed as the Senior Pastor.
